Taylor Swift is a modern interpretation of the classic love story of Romeo and Juliet, but with a happy ending unlike Shakespeare's tragedy.
The lyrics tell the story of two young people who fall in love when they first see each other: 'We were both young, when I first saw you.' However, the girl's parents are against the relationship and tell her to stay away from 'Romeo'.
Despite this, they meet in secret and dream of being together someday. They ask 'Romeo' to take them somewhere they can be alone: 'Romeo take me somewhere, we can be alone.' They imagine living as a prince and princess in their own love story: 'You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess, It's a love story, baby, just say yes.'
