The song lyrics "Corridos de los Perez" by
Los Cadetes de Linares tell the story of the Perez brothers, who were killed in the year 1911. The song begins with the words "En mil novecientos once", which means "In the year 1911". It is explained that the two brothers and their cousin were murdered.
It is mentioned that Mariano Perez was killed by a cowardly man on a Thursday in April at three o'clock in the afternoon. The text also states that it was Nico de Luna who committed the deed and then was the first to run away when the shots were fired.
The brothers Isidro and Mariano Perez were very brave and stood up for their beliefs. Mariano said, "Yo también muero en la raya, No soy cría de correlones", which means "I also die on the line, I'm not a coward". He wanted to show that he would not back down from violence.
Isidro Perez expressed his anger at how they were attacked treacherously, and said, "Si le han entrado derecho, Otro gallo les cantara", which means "If they had attacked us directly, they would have regretted it". He was convinced that they would have reacted differently if they had had a fair fight.
The brothers were shot in different directions, symbolically resembling a cross. It is also mentioned that the races in the Cerro (hill) were tragic and both horses and money were lost.
The song ends with the words "Vuela vuela palomita, Vuela paloma querida, Dile al padre de los Perez, Que aquí termino su vida", which means "Fly, fly, little dove, fly, beloved dove, tell the father of the Perez brothers that their life ended here". This is a sad reminder of the death of the Perez brothers.
